ChartMake ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at chartmake.com and its subdomains. We provide a free online chart-making tool that allows users to create, customise, and download charts without creating an account.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use ChartMake, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.
2. What data we collect
ChartMake is designed to be used without an account. We do not require you to provide any personal information to use the free tool. The data we may collect falls into two categories:
Data you provide voluntarily
- Contact form submissions: If you contact us via the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.
- Pro account registration: If you sign up for ChartMake Pro, we collect your email address and payment information (processed by Stripe — we never store card details directly).
- Chart data: Data you enter into the chart tool (labels, values) is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to or stored on our servers.
Data collected automatically
- Usage data: Standard server logs including IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This is collected by our hosting provider (Cloudflare).
- Analytics data: Aggregated page view and traffic data via analytics tools (see Section 4).
3. How we use your data
We use the data we collect for the following purposes:
- To operate the service: Serving web pages, processing Pro subscriptions, and maintaining uptime.
- To respond to enquiries: Replying to contact form submissions and support requests.
- To improve ChartMake: Analysing aggregated usage patterns to understand which features and pages are most useful.
- To send transactional emails: Order confirmations, subscription receipts, and password resets for Pro accounts only. We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
- Legal compliance: Meeting obligations under applicable law, including responding to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Cookies and analytics
ChartMake uses a minimal set of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Required for the site to function (e.g. session management for Pro accounts). These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: We use privacy-friendly analytics (no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, IP addresses anonymised) to measure page views and traffic sources. You may opt out by enabling Do Not Track in your browser.
- No advertising cookies: We do not use third-party advertising networks or tracking pixels.
If you use the free tool without a Pro account, no persistent cookies are set beyond what is necessary for the page to load.
5. Third-party services
ChartMake uses the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:
All third-party providers are contractually required to process data only on our instructions and in accordance with applicable data protection law.
6. Data retention
- Server logs: Retained for up to 30 days, then automatically deleted.
- Contact form messages: Retained for up to 12 months, then deleted unless an ongoing support relationship requires longer retention.
- Pro account data: Retained for the duration of your subscription and for 90 days after cancellation, after which it is permanently deleted. Stripe retains payment records as required by financial regulations.
- Chart data: Never stored on our servers — all chart creation happens in your browser.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
- Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Objection: Object to the processing of your data for certain purposes.
- Withdrawal of consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in Section 10. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children's privacy
ChartMake is a general-purpose tool used by people of all ages, including students. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of ChartMake after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
